Coláiste Eoin, Marino College and Harmonstown Youthreach navigate their way to success in Orienteering Competition

Coláiste Eoin’s navigational skills came to the fore to win the senior and intermediate honour’s at yesterday’s CDETB Orienteering competition held at St Anne’s Park in Clontarf.

Marino College denied Eoin a clean sweep of title wins when Slyvia Couaci and Maruna Simandi powered their way to victory with an excellent 18 minutes 28 seconds winning time on the 1.9km junior course.

Students from Coláiste Eoin, Marino College, Harmonstown Youthreach and Transition Centre, Parnell Square took to the various courses with a wonderful sense of fun and competitiveness all rolled into one.

Coláiste Eoin totally dominated the toughest terrain from bridges to path crossings to ruins and the longest 2.7km on the senior course in perfect weather conditions at the northside park in Dublin 5.

Eoin’s Lee Duddy came home in an impressive time of 17 minutes 24 seconds followed by his colleagues Darius Spik in 19 minutes 58 seconds and Dmytro Brytro in 21 minutes 39 seconds.

Out on the intermediate course Eoin’s Carla Meche navigated the 2.5km trail of tracks, bridges, path crossings and fences in a winning time of 19 minutes 09 seconds.

Earlier in the day Kayleigh Dunne of Harmonstown Youthreach registerd a time of 23 minutes 16 seconds to finish second, eight seconds faster than David Lyons of Coláiste Eoin.

In the junior competition Coláiste Eoin’s pairings of Ben Beresford and Dylan Geoghegan (33 minutes 31 seconds) and Shannon Hoey and Melissa Robinson (37 minutes 28 seconds) finished behind Marino’s Couaci and Simandi in second and third place respectively.

Harmonstown Youthreach’s Leon Kavanagh and Ryan Hamilton won the intermediate pairings competition with a time of 21 minutes 6 seconds to round off a wonderful day in St Anne’s Park.
