By Louise Browne

Larkin Community College celebrated double success in winning the minor and intermediate titles at last week’s CDETB SCC Girls Soccer finals at Sports & Fitness Irishtown, Ringsend.

Ringsend College captured the junior title with a 5-3 win over Kylemore College in an entertaining final at the Dublin 4 venue.

Larkin’s minor team were made to work hard for their 4-2 win against a determined Clonturk Community College team.

A brace apiece from Larkin’s captain Ava Henry and Sadhbh O’Leary handed Larkin the silverware. Larkin took the lead thanks to an early strike from Henry. Clonturk fought back with a brace from their inspirational captain Roisin Sheridan.

O’Leary levelled the game 2-2 just before the break. Both sides keepers Larkin’s Aggie Viragh and Clonturk’s Rosealeen Gillen were excellent between the post. Henry and O’Leary sealed the win with two late goals for Larkin.

Clonturk’s captain Roisín Sheridan won the Most Valuable Player award for her impressive performance for the Dublin 9 school.

Larkin’s intermediate side retained their title with a 3-0 win against Kylemore College. A goal in each half from Larkin’s captain Nicole Maher and Euro Ageontaen’s strike sealed the win for the north inner city school.

Larkin raced into an early lead courtesy of a fine individual effort from Maher. The champions avenue school where unlucky not to double their lead when Rebecca Scurry’s low drive came back of the post just before half time.

Larkin continued to put pressure on their opponents after the restart. The north inner city school got their just reward when Georgia Murphy’s excellent pass set up Maher to score her second goal with a simple tap in from close range.

Kylemore’s Danielle Doyle and Lauren Joyce lead the charge from the front for the Ballyfermot school but they couldn’t find a way past Larkin’s keeper Chloe Hanney.

At the other end Euro Ageontaen made no mistake with a well taken goal to see out a well deserved win for Larkin. Maher, who put in a excellent captain’s display, was duly awarded the Most Valuable Player accolade for her efforts.

In the junior decider Ringsend, courtesy of a super Abbie Larkin hat-trick and a goal apiece from Brooke Carr and Kerry Coughlan, saw the Dublin 4 claim the shield.

Larkin opened the scoring with an early long range strike. A minute later Larkin doubled Ringsend’s lead. Kylemore responded instantly through Kylemore’s Jacqueline Gorman clinical finish.

Kylemore had a good spell of possession and got their just reward with Gorman’s second goal leaving it tied 2-2 at the break. Kim Harte in the Kylemore goal pulled off some great saves to deny Larkin, Sophie Young and Rebecca Maher.

While Ringsend’s keeper Abbie Cassidy was kept busy at the other end to deny Gorman, Abbie Gibbons and Kerry Coughlan. Midway through the second half Maher, who claimed the Most Valuable Player of the final, secured her hat-trick with a close range effort.

Moments later Ringsend’s Brooke Carr goal made it 4-2. Kylemore pulled one back through a low drive from Abbie Gibbons. However a late goal from Ringsend’s Kerry Coughlan put the game beyond Kylemore.
