CDETB SCC Girls Soccer Finals – Wednesday 5th October 2016

By Louise Browne

LARKIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE claimed the minor and junior shield titles while Colaiste Dhúlaigh took home the Intermediate silverware at yesterday’s CDETB SCC Girls Soccer finals held at Colaiste Íde, Finglas.

Larkin retained the junior title with a 4-1 win against St Kevin’s College. Jessica Zie was Larkin’s hero with a super hat-trick and was duly awarded the Player of the Tournament for her superb play throughout the competition.

Zie and Amran Maxamad, who scored Larkin’s second goal, were the champions avenue’s key players. St Kevin’s goalkeeper Leah Sheridan had denied both players with some fine saves before Shauna McNally scored a consolation goal for the Ballyfermot College.

The minor decider between Larkin and Colaíste Dhulaígh was a much closer affair with the all important goal coming from Larkin’s Tegan Brady with two minutes left on the clock to win 3-2.

The north inner city college came from behind three times in the match, with a goal in either half from their captain Lauren O’Connell, who was named Player of the Tournament, keeping Larkin in touch.

Dhúlaigh took an early lead courtesy of Brooke Campbell before an excellent strike from Tirin Hand O’Connell gave the Coolock school a deserved 2-1 lead at the break.

Lauren O’Connell levelled the game just after the restart while Larkin’s keeper Trinity Moore denied Dhúlaigh with some great saves prior to Brady’s late strike.

WINNERS! ColaÍste Dhúlaigh

ColaÍste Dhúlaigh’s minor disapointment was short lived as they watched their intermediate team beat Kylemore College 6-3 in a pulsating game.

Dhulaígh’s Player of the Tournament Courtney Higgins, Sorcha O’Kelly and Emily Garrigan all scored a brace of goals. Leah Sheridan was kept busy in the Kylemore goal pulling off some fine saves.

Danielle Doyle opened the scoring for Kylemore before O’Kelly and Garrigan found the net to give Larkin a narrow 2-1 advantage at half time.

Garrigan scored her second straight from the restart. Amy Moran’s s goal gave Kylemore hope however Higgins hit back for Dhúlaigh.

Kylemore responded through another goal from Doyle to trail 4-3 before two late goals from O’Kelly and Higgins claimed the spoils for the Coolock college.
