CDETB Perpetual Cup Rugby Sevens

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010.

By Alex Fitzpatrick

On Wednesday 20th October the annual C.D.V.E.C. Sevens took place at a very sunny C.Y.M. R.F.C (Terenure).

The competition involved players from four constituent colleges, Inchicore, Crumlin, Ballsbridge and Colaiste Ide. The competition took the form of a round robin which came down to Inchicore/Crumlin vs. Ballsbridge in the final match which Inchicore / Crumlin won by 5 tries to 2. This was a very good match played at breakneck speed by two very fit teams but in the end the technically superior team won out, the final order of the competition was;

1 – Inchicore/Crumlin

2 – Ballsbridge

3 – Colaiste Ide

Indeed the standard of play from all teams was very high again this year which bodes well for our participation as the CDETB representative side in further sevens and/or ten’s. The players on the day expressed strong interest in the playing for CDETB, to this end I am currently setting up fixtures with the help of the Leinster Branch Development officer for Dublin. I would like to thank the members of CYM RFC for the use of their facilities. The executive committee of CYM has offered us the use of their facilities for the rest of the season.

There will be a short write up on the competition in the Herald, many thanks to Louise. Also I’d like to thank Sabena Power for getting the Crumlin players out on the day, much appreciated. I will be talking to Eamon McGinley re a new set of jerseys for this season, these are badly needed as that current set was purchased in the 2002 / 2003 season!
