Adrian Oudec was the hero for Rathmines College after his extra time goal sealed a 1-0 win against Northside Youthreach to lift the Belgrove Cup. Rathmines College’s three in a row success came on the back of last Wednesday’s round robin cup competition held at the CDETB SCC Sports Grounds in Terenure.

With a penalty shoot-out looming Oudec controlled the ball inside the penalty box before cutting through two players and calmly slotting a low shot past Youthreach’s keeper Darragh Singleton to kick start goal celebrations in the second half of extra time.

Oudec, who started the game up front before reverting to centre back, was quickest to react after Jeffrey Tunga’s shot was blocked after Singleton’s punched clearance fell to the Rathmines winger.

Despite the lack of clear cut chances from open play the final itself was a passionate affair with Rathmines starting brightly and should have taken the lead through Eric O’Brien. The right back blasted the ball over the cross bar from ten yards out after Singleton’s save from Quintan Drapeau’s headed effort landed at O’Brien’s feet.

Singleton was called into action soon after with a comfortable save from Stephen Pyne’s long range shot leaving it scoreless at half time. Youthreach’s Jordan Donnelly’s free kick from the edge of the box was blocked by a steadfast wall while Adam Carter and Dale Forrester went close for the Northsiders.

Youthreach had two good chances to break the deadlock in the first half of extra time. Craig Conyard was denied with an excellent save from Rathmines keeper and captain Stephen Murray prior to Christopher Hand’s super header crashing against the Rathmines crossbar.

At the other end Rathmines best opportunity came from O’Brien however Singleton pulled off a good save to deny the right back before Oudec’s late winner handed Rathmines College the silverware.

Rathmines College had booked their place in the final after a clean sweep of wins over Coláiste Ide, Ballyfermot Youthreach and Inchicore College. While Northside Youthreach got the better of Inchicore College and Ballyfermot Youthreach to finish second in the table in the round robin competition.
