Larkin Community College were recently crowned Intermediate and Minor SCC Table Tennis champions while Kylemore College walked away with the Junior title.

Larkin and Kylemore had contested all three finals, with three singles matches being played in each final along with participants showing great skill around the tables.

The highlight of the finals saw Captains Dean Brady of Larkin and Kylemore’s Kishore Lumar clash in the Intermediate finale.

Earlier Lumar’s colleague Corey Cramp had beaten Larkin’s Josh Douglas 11-6, 11-7 before Larkin tied matters up when Michael Lyndsey overcame Paddy Wynne 11-8, 11-7.

Brady got an early foothold in the first set seeing it out 11-6. Lumar lifted his game in the next set leading from the front throughout to narrowly win 12-10.

With the title up for grabs Lumar raced into a 3-0 lead in the final set. Brady’s response was swift putting seven unanswered points on the scoreboard to win 11-4 and claim the Shield.

Larkin’s minor team sealed the double with a 2-1 win over Kylemore. Aaron Heary got the better of Charlie Murray by 11-7, 11-8 in the first match.

Table-Tennis ChampionshipKylemore’s captain Evan Dunne hit back by beating Aaron Redmond 13-11, 11-6 in the next game with Larkin’s Shane Rooney up against Dylan O’Sullivan in the deciding match.

Rooney’s fine play around the table gave the Larkin student a comprehensive 11-3, 11-2 win over O’Sullivan as the north inner city school celebrated its second title of the day.

In the Junior final Kylemore denied Larkin the treble with a 3-0 clean sweep over the reigning champions. Kylemore’s Joey Martin overcame Jordan Olivere 11-4, 8-11, 11-6 in the opening game.
