Inchicore College and Colaiste Dhulaigh will contest next month’s VEC SCC Senior Boys Basketball final following yesterday’s qualifiers held at Inchicore’s Sports Centre.

In a preview of the final, Inchicore with Eoghan Moore’s impressive showing finished off with a personal tally of 20 points, overcame Dhulaigh 36-31 in a highly charged game.

Moore opened the scoring with back to back baskets, scores from Dhulaigh’s Stephen O’Neill and Ger Prendergast levelled matters up before Moore and Dhulaigh’s captain Rob Maguire went head to head on the scoreboard.

Further scores from Inchicore’s captain Dan O’Neill and Stephen Creighton saw the hosts lead 21-14 at the interval. After the restart Dhulaigh cut the deficit to three points before Moore responded with a sublime three point play.

Maguire, who topped scored with 24 points, kept Dhulaigh in touch with some excellent scores off the board, but Inchicore did enough to seal the win with a gripping sequel promised in the final.

The girls’ senior final sees Crumlin College taking on Inchicore College with Crumlin going into the final as firm favourites after a comprehensive 42-10 over Inchicore in yesterday’s qualifiers.

An inspiring performance from twin sisters Shauna and Jamie Homan alongside Caren Daly and Cliodhea McNamara kept Inchicore on the back foot throughout the game.

Inchicore had gone into the game missing key players such as twins Shelly and Keilan Behan and Claire Hulgraine. If the trio are fit to play in next month’s final a much closer contest will be on the cards.
