Larkin Community College will chase a unique double after their minor boys and girls teams booked their place in next week’s VEC SCC Basketball finals being held at basketball headquarters in Tallaght.

Larkin girls know they’ll face tough opposition against Presentation Terenure in the final after they were narrowly defeated 13-11 by Pres with Lisa Phiri’s basket in overtime sealing the win in yesterday’s qualifiers at Inchicore’s Sports Hall.

Pres’ Claire Anderson, Rebecca O’Brien and their captain Kamile Kibar put in flawless performances. While Larkin’s captain Lauren Lawless and Leah McNevin impressed throughout with the final sure to throw up another exhilarating game between the sides.

Colaiste Dhulaigh’s boy’s team will do all in their power to stop Larkin in their tracks after they topped the other boys qualifying group yesterday on their home turf at the Coolock College.

After successfully overcoming Colaiste Eoin 22-4 in their opening game Dhulaigh faced Plunket College for a place in the final. The Coolock side fell behind early on before Dhulaigh’s top scorer Brendan McCabe, Tony Shields and their captain Cody Kenny pulled out the shots to win 12-8.

Over at Inchicore Larkin, with a captain fantastic display from Shane Craig, powered their way into the final with dazzling performances against Marino College and Kylemore College.

Craig and Timir Vorobjov’s sharp shooting helped Larkin see off Marino College 22-0. Then Craig, Calvin Prendergast and a tireless showing from Gary Carroll gave Larkin a 14-0 win over Kylemore College in the deciding game.
