Girls Gaelic Football

Wednesday, 4th May, 2011

By Neil Flaherty

The 2010/11 Junior Girls Gaelic Football competition took place on Wednesday the 4th of May at the VEC Sports grounds in Whitehall. There was a disappointing turnout this year with only three schools entering teams. Because of this it was decided to play the competition as 9 a side with Larkin College entering two teams and Marino College and Colaiste Eoin entering teams also.

The competition was run on a league basis with all teams playing each other once. There were some very entertaining games played and from the first game it was evident that Marino College had a very strong team. They dominated the tournament and comfortably won all their games and thus regained the Girls Gaelic Cup. Runners up on the day were the Larkin One team who also played very well throughout the day.

After the final game the SCC Girls Gaelic Cup was presented to the captain of the Marino team Shannon Griffin. I would like to thank the teachers and students from the competing schools who made the day a success and thanks also to our referee Harry Lambe.
