LARKIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE showed great determination to retain the Hannigan Cup and Robinson Cup in last Friday’s annual CDVEC SCC Track and Field Championship held at Morton Stadium, Santry.

Larkin captured the overall schools boys and girls championship silverware after impressive displays at minor, junior, intermediate and senior levels.

However Larkin were denied a clean sweep of all the categories by Kylemore College and Colaiste Dhulaigh who won the minor boys and junior boys shields respectively.

The champions won four titles in the 4 x 100m relay races with Tiffany Heary, Rafait Otemolu, Jasmine Noonan and Sinead Maguire taking gold in the minor girls’ final prior to Larkin adding the junior boys, intermediate girls and male millennium relay titles.

Colaiste Dhulaigh’s relay team of brothers Stephen and Kevin Curtis, Dylan Coyle and Kevin Darling finished top of the podium running the perfect race in the intermediate final. While Presentation Terenure’s girls’ team of Niamh Moran, Susannah Ryan, Rachel Pec Athletics

k and Lydia Sweetman took gold in the junior relay final.

Several students put in top class individual performances with Kylemore College students Sean Lawlor and Emma Weldon and Nicholas Melia of Colaiste Eoin the pick of the championship.

Lawlor was unstoppable in the 100 metre and 400 metre minor finals. The Donore Harriers runner won his third gold medal with fellow students Dean O’Neill, Aaron Curry and Chris Antonio in the minor boys relay final to walk away with the ‘Athlete of the Meet’ award.

Weldon was awarded the girls’ ‘Athlete of the Meet’ combining great attitude with a winning showing in the intermediate girls Javelin final. While Melia’s strength and speed saw the Fingallian AC athlete win the 100 metre and 400 metre junior boys finals.

Others students who won track finals included Larkin’s Jordan Doody (minor 1500m) and Moenkeji Otemolu (intermediate 100m) and Shannon Thomas of Colaiste Eoin.

In the field events Larkin’s Arthur Vorobjou captured the junior shot putt and intermediate long jump titles, Tomas Mitchell (junior javelin), Darren Hughes (intermediate high jump) and Sinead Maguire (minor long jump).

With Kristina Shavinovica (long jump), Clara Hilliard (high jump) and Kelsey Furlong having further success for Larkin in the intermediate competition. Colaiste Dhulaigh’s Laura Greene, Shelley Maughan and Christopher McDonagh won the high jump, long jump and shot putt respectively.

While St Kevin’s College students Poom Phanysori (intermediate shot putt), Bilal Iqbal (intermediate javelin) and Oscar Chimielowski (senior shot putt) claimed gold medals.
