SCC Music Across the City - Wednesday, 19th September 2007

ROBThe SCC embarked on a series of events whose purpose was to showcase the talents of songwriters and musicians across its further education centres. The launch of this citywide venture took place on Wednesday September 19th 2007 in the Sugar Club on Leeson St in Dublin. A large audience filled the Sugar Club to capacity and they were treated to the highest quality in musical entertainment.

Dublin born Rachel O Brien was first on stage and her folk influenced sound was warmly received by the enthusiastic crowd. Rachel, a former student on the Music Performance and Technology Course at Kylemore College Ballyfermot is building a successful career as a singer songwriter after only a few years writing songs and playing guitar. She has an E.P. entitled ‘The Journey’ and she has been selected as a finalist in the Clonmel Song Contest 2007. Luke Bermingham and Guests took to the stage and performed a lengthy set, every minute of which delighted the LBaudience. Occasional solos from guest musicians on guitar, mandola, bass guitar and fiddle captured and enhanced the various moods being created by Luke’s guitar accompanied vocals. The set of songs performed was mostly original material and featured a number of collaborations between Luke and musicians he met during his time as a student at both Kylemore College and Ballyfermot College of Further Education. Many of Luke’s co-writers were present in the audience for this gig.

Luke is currently pursuing further study at Dundalk Institute of Technology and maintains a busy teaching and performing career. For more information on Luke’s music and to obtain a copy of his album ‘Still’ log onto [ www.myspace.com/lukebermingham ]
