SCC PLC Battle of the Bands - Monday, 26th November 2007

EMDMonday November 26th 2007 in Eamonn Doran’s Temple Bar, Dublin saw the occasion of the inaugural PLC Band Competition. The competition was supported by the Sports and Cultural Council of CDVEC and SCC Secretary Jim O Dea even dropped in person to give the event his seal of approval, thanks Jim!

This year’s competition was a hotly contested battle between two Ballyfermot Colleges, BCFE Rock School and Kylemore College MTC. In total nine finalists (six from BCFE and three from Kylemore) went head to head to ensure a highly charged rock and roll show that was much to the delight of the capacity crowd in Eamonn Doran’s.

After more than two hours of the best quality original rock music audience LCand performers eagerly awaited the results. The third prize of €200 was awarded to Paul Fitzgerald and his band (BCFE) followed by the band Libido Café [ www.myspace.com/libidocafe2007 ](BCFE) who took second prize of €400. In a nail biting finale the winner of first prize of €750 was Eoin Mc Donagh [ www.myspace.com/eoinmcd ] and his band (Kylemore). Eoin was invited to give an encore and his song ‘Oh Oh Oh’ had the entire crowd bouncing to the beat of his punchy rock. Listen below!

A great debt of thanks is due to the two judges on the night Grainne O Brien [ Trip the Light Publicity ] and Peter Bolger [ CS Music ], to the staff and management of Eamonn Doran’s, to Paul Little of Music Maker who provided the prizes in music vouchers, to the organising committee Matt Kelleghan, Ger Flanagan, Francie Conway, Alan Kelly, Kevin Devine and Terry Hackett, to the SCC and CDVEC and to all of the performers who have ensured the continuance of this new and exciting musical event in the CDVEC calendar.
