In the ‘year like no other’ we are still here giving our writers a platform to express themselves in literary form. Perhaps students will write about Lockdown or The Third Wave or prefer speculative fiction to escape our ‘new normal.’ All genres are welcome.
Our competition categories are Short Story, Poetry and Memoir and Screenplay. To ensure a level playing field, we offer categories of New Writer, Novice Writer and Open Writer in the Short Story and Poetry competitions.
A New Writer is someone new to writing in English (Adult Literacy or an international student with an elementary knowledge of English).
A Novice Writer is one with a reasonable standard of written English but new to the creative writing process.
An Open Writer is a more accomplished, amateur writer. As always, we are asking our Open Short Story writers to write to a theme which may be implied in the story. This year the theme for the Open Short Story is Connection/Rediscovery.
Entries are by email only to sccwritingcompetition@outlook.com and must be accompanied by a completed entry form. Entrants must clearly indicate in the subject heading of the email what category they are entering, e.g. Memoir or New Poetryand attach their entry form and entry.
The deadline for receipt of entries is Friday 12th February 2021.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no Awards Ceremony and prizes will be sent by post in April/May 2021.
Our Chairperson is Colin Carters from Inchicore College of FE. Colin is assisted by Paula Egan, Mountjoy Education Centre, Robert Quinn, Coláiste Dhúlaigh and Kathy O’Neill, Crumlin College.
